Art of Ecology

Nordplus Junior Cooperation Project Art of Ecology

Project Title: Art of Ecology

Project ID: NPJR-2022/10226

Funding Programme: Nordplus

Project Coordinator: Riga Preschool Education Institution No 81 (Riga, Latvia)

Project Partners: Tallinn Kindergarten Männi (Tallinn, Estonia); Siauliai Kindergarten Gluosnis (Siauliai, Lithuan

ia); Early Childhood Support Association (Riga, Latvia)

About the Project:

The Art of Ecology project focused on integrating ecological education into early childhood settings by empowering teachers with creative, arts-based, and outdoor learning approaches. Preschools from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania collaborated with an NGO to strengthen teachers’ professional capacity, encourage ecological thinking, and create meaningful learning experiences for children aged 3–6.

Teachers participated in international job shadowing, workshops, and field trips, where they explored nature education through visual arts, science, and family involvement. Children contributed to mobile exhibitions and virtual photo galleries that reflected their relationship with nature.

A key output of the project was a methodological e-book containing at least 30 practical ecological activity ideas for use in preschools.

The project culminated in an international conference, where participating institutions shared their practices and outcomes. By combining professional development, creative expression, and environmental responsibility, the project enhanced ecological awareness in early education and contributed to long-term collaboration among Baltic preschool educators.

Challenges of Modern Preschool

Nordplus Junior Cooperation Project Challenges of Modern Preschool

Project Title: Challenges of Modern Preschool

Project ID: NPJR-2018/10098

Funding Programme: Nordplus

Project Coordinator: Private Preschool Education Institution Maziņš kā jūra (Riga, Latvia)

Project Partners: Tallinn Kindergarten Vesiroos (Tallinn, Estonia); Kedainiai Nursery-Kindergarten Puriena (Kedainiai, Lithuania); Early Childhood Support Association (Riga, Latvia)

About the Project:

The Challenges of Modern Preschool project addressed conte

mporary trends and reforms in early childhood education across the Baltic countries. Preschools from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, together with the Early Childhood Support Association, explored how preschool systems have evolved in response to social, cultural, and demographic changes such as migration, multiculturalism, and shifting societal values.

Through transnational visits, educators observed classroom practices, engaged in professional dialogue with peers and experts, and analysed legislative frameworks guiding preschool education. The project emphasized mutual learning, encouraging comparison of national approaches and identifying innovative practices. Participants produced scientific and methodological presentations and posters that highlighted emerging trends, which were shared at an international conference and in local seminars. By fostering collaboration between institutions and municipalities, the project supported informed policy dialogue and professional development. It contributed to a deeper understanding of preschool education in the region and promoted evidence-based improvements in teaching practices.
